Ridge Board Roof

The rafters and trusses that are part of the overall roof structure are connected along the body of the ridge board helping to create a durable framework that protects the rooms of the structure underneath.

Install the ridge board cut to the ridge board to the length of the shed dimension b and mark it 24 inch on center. So the ridge is basically the peak of a roof but ridge also refers to the board or beam that is used in building the ridge. This type of framing is a specially designed rafter layout and requires precise and experienced erection. Remove the spacers in both end wall trusses and put the ridge board in between the 2 gable ends.

Ridge boards and beams in traditional house framing also called stick framing a basic roof frame consists of opposing pairs of sloping rafters that meet at their top ends at a ridge board or ridge beam. Specifically the ridge board is a section of solid timber or metal that is positioned horizontally along the line of the ridge of the roof. Its only job is to provide a connection point for the roof joists on each side of the roof. Line it up with the top of the truss and nail in place.

The engineering principles of the ridge board are a bit more complicated. The ridge board runs the length of the building and provides support for the tops of the rafters helping the whole roof structure work together as a system. Because the ridge board is a smaller member typically only an inch thick sometimes even less it is not a structural member and doesn t carry the gravity load. The ridge board and rafters are the strength of the roof.
